A Lily Update

Pure flower. Oath of God. Born on Saturday. Long life.

That is my Lily Elizabeth Ama Danquah.

This precocious three-year-old spouts exuberant phrases such as "I've been looking for this for ages!", "Mommy, I am so ready to be three!" (said on the very morning of her third birthday), and "You can't spank the sink, Mommy; it's not even a person!" (said in response to me disciplining the sink after she hit her head on it).

I love her ever-expanding vocabulary which serves up some highly amusing word candy. Yesterday, she pleaded for a "lolly-cane," known to the rest of the world as a candy cane. Hey, it's shaped like a cane, but you suck on it like a lollipop, so the logic works out a-okay in a three-year-old's brain!

Oh, but my favorite lately? First I will tell you the story behind it. I have a magnetic affinity toward most things peppermint, hence one of my favorite candies are Peppermint Patties. I usually savor a couple of the mini version of these delights after my girls go to bed and one night, after I had enjoyed one, Lily called me from her room to get her some more water a la using-a-stalling-tactic-to-avoid-sleep. As I was leaving her room, I bent down to kiss her and she asked me what I had been eating because she could smell it on my breath. I told her it was called a Peppermint Patty, and then I pulled out the classic mommy bribing card and said "You may have a Peppermint Patty when you wake up in the morning if you go to sleep right now."

You better believe she remembered every bit of that promise and awoke with the intentional attitude of a child about ready to pounce on a treat. "Mommy?" she said. "Can I have one of those, you know...that thing you ate last night...ummm...oh, yeah, I remember! Can I have a Vitamin Potty?"

I couldn't help but chuckle. :)

These days, Lily dances around on her tip toes, spins like the most prima ballerina, has longer hair again, adores all things princess, her baby sister, and her new Dora movie. At three-years-old, she has now tried a cheese burger (and liked it!), goes bananas for berries of any kind, grapes, apples, and cute little clementine oranges. In her mind, nothing could be greater than Halloween candy, birthday cake and ice cream, or her friends. She loves to cuddle and demands a kiss and hug every time we leave anywhere without her.

Lily loves singing songs, especially the "ABC's", "I'm a Little Teapot", "The Wheels on the Bus", and "Old MacDonald Had a Farm". She knows all her colors, some shapes and counts to about 15. She loves reading books with me and looking at pictures.

This mommy couldn't be more in love!!
