Wonderful Weekend/Past Outreach Story

This past Friday night we had a surprise visitor to our house that is a great friend of ours from YWAM Lausanne in Switzerland. Her name is Grace and I staffed her DTS in 2003, when she was 17 and I was 19 and then we staffed a DTS together in 2004 along with Benjie. Grace and Benjie and another girl led an outreach together in that school to Uganda/Kenya.

During that outreach, the team went on a safari in Uganda. They were in two separate cars, but only one of the members of the team was in the other car with some of the outreach facilitators. Everyone else was in a 15 passenger van behind that car.

They saw some monkeys out the window and got really excited and all took off their seat belts to get a better look. Two minutes after that, the driver over-corrected on a turn and swerved three times, then flew off the road and rolled the van three times. Benjie was in the front seat and broke the front windshield as he was ejected from the vehicle. Grace was in the back of the van and hit her neck and chest again and again against the bar that was over the window, breaking her collar bone.

Amazingly enough, they were the only two of the 15 who were injured in that car accident! Jesus is faithful. Whenever Benjie tells the story, he always recalls how he felt like two hands were holding him as he flew out of the car and they carried him a short distance before letting him fall to the ground. He landed on his neck/head, and only sustained an ankle injury where a piece of glass was shoved deep into his muscle. Praise God!

Needless to say, Grace and our family are very close. We have been to her family's vacation home in Telluride several times and have just so enjoyed them!

Then, on Saturday, we had the privilege of getting together with another close friend from our YWAM Lausanne days. This woman is wonderful and had a very integral part in mentoring Benjie in worship. She is the fantastic Lisa Cuellar. She is from the Bay Area but has been living in Berlin for the past four years. She will be moving to England soon and is in the States visiting friends, family, and supporters.

Lisa is an inspiration and an incredible worship leader/song writer. She is so beautiful and artistic and just plain fun. We were blessed to enjoy some awesome pancakes together at IHOP on Saturday afternoon :)

Southern California is a great place to live because we don't have to travel anywhere anymore; everyone comes to us! Love it!
