A Plethora of Words

"Again, again, aGAIN!!!" That is the chant in my head that resounds as I pick up book after book and watch clip after clip of the same movie over and over and over again. I have a 19 month old. Sound familiar? Every time we see the monkey or the train on her favorite DVD, it is like it is the first time that she has seen them all over again. The excitement, the wonder, the awe is fresh and obvious upon her chubby little face. Mommy must have a very enthralling reading voice, too, or at least one's ego might be boosted enough to think so as Lily has picked up the same board book to read for the fifth time in the last 20 minutes. Not to mention that Mommy's memory is getting pretty dang good. I can read practically all her books without even looking at the pages. But that's ok with Lily. Just as long as she is sitting on my lap and I am engaging her in this learning process. She is fascinated by the amount of information that is contained within her sweet little brain. She becomes giddy again and again each time that she opens her mouth and can tell me "Apple!" "Monkey!" "Horsey!" "Car!" "Spoon!" "Dress!"

Every day I wonder at how quickly she learns new vocabulary words. Someone has opened the fountain of her mind, which has been an extremely absorbent sponge over the past year-and-a-half, and a veritable fountain of learned words is flowing freely now albeit a little rough around the edges :) It's a good thing.

Oh gosh, I can totally relate to this learning process! At 2 years old, Macy talks in complete sentences! She's such a little hoot!

Wow, it is a miracle to watch children develop. A full on moment-by-moment miracle that takes place right before your eyes, entering into your heart. Never to leave that place.

I love that you are a Mommy, Meggs. I love that I will be one someday too ;)

"Apple!" "Monkey!" "Horsey!" "Car!" "Spoon!" "Dress!" Sounds like my day! minus the monkey. :)
